PHI 7, TOR 4: Flyers chase Jonathan Bernier, pulverize Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs were outplayed and outscored by a wide margin on Saturday night by the Philadelphia Flyers.

As a result, starting goaltender Jonathan Bernier was given the hook after allowing seven goals on 41 shots faced. He was replaced by James Reimer.

Here's everything you need to know about Saturday's game:

  • Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul played in his 200th game as a Maple Leaf on Saturday night and celebrated by opening the scoring. It was Lupul's 75th Maple Leafs goal, which is an incredible clip. With production like that it seems likely that Lupul would be considered a bona fide star were it not for the persistent durability issues.

  • The Maple Leafs' loss on Saturday night was their first in a game in which they opened the scoring this season. Previously they'd won all 13 games in which they'd scored the first goal.

  • In the first period the Flyers and Maple Leafs exchanged three goals in :26 seconds on the game clock, setting a Maple Leafs record.

  • It was a tough defensive outing for the Maple Leafs, particularly for their best two-way center Nazem Kadri (who finished the night a -4) and their top-pairing defenseman Dion Phaneuf (who similarly finished the night a -4).

  • Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux each managed a point on three Flyers goals, and have now both been in on 26 different Flyers goals this season. Philadelphia's pair of bluechip forwards might be the most dynamic offensive duo in hockey (sorry Phil Kessel and... Tyler Bozak?).
