Maple Leafs, Flyers trade 3 goals in 26 seconds in defense-optional period

As teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers are known more for their offensive abilities than their defensive skill. That was evident in a high-event first period on Saturday night, during which the teams each scored three goals.

At one point, the two club's traded three goals in the span of 26 seconds, which set a Maple Leafs record.  

Sean Couturier got things started when he finished off a lovely Matt Read feed and beat Jonathan Bernier:

Then, David Clarkson got in on the action, because, who are we kidding, Clarkson's got this:

Finally, Claude Giroux answered Clarkson's marker, beating out Nazem Kadri and deftly tipping a puck past Bernier:

At least the Flyers could have some fun with it, even if the above series of events shortened Randy Carlyle and Craig Berube's combined life expectancy by roughly a decade:
