Stars' Garbutt suspended 3 games for slew-foot on Jets' Byfuglien

Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt has been suspended three games for slew-footing Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Thursday.

As explained in the video, Byfuglien gained body position on Garbutt during a race for the puck, at which time the Stars forward used his left leg to kick out Byfuglien's skates while also using his stick to yank the big man's body backwards and down to the ice.

The dual motion increased the risk of injury; while he came out unscathed, the video notes that Byfuglien's back did slam dangerously onto the ice.

Garbutt has also been suspended twice in the past 13 months, the most recent of which being handed down on Nov. 27. His status as a repeat offender played a part in this decision from the league.
