Blues trade Jordan Leopold to Blue Jackets for 5th-round pick

Bruce Fedyck / USA Today

The St. Louis Blues have traded defenseman Jordan Leopold to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Blues acquired a fifth-round pick in 2016, the team announced Saturday.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said the move immediately gives the team an additional $1.1 million in cap space and that will grow as the trade deadline draws near.

Armstrong added that defenseman Chris Butler will be recalled.

Leopold had no points and two penalty minutes in seven games with the Blues this season. He was the seventh defenseman on a Blues team with considerable depth on the blue line.
