Report: NHL singles out ownership group for Las Vegas expansion franchise
The National Hockey League appears to have come to a decision on an ownership group for a potential expansion team in Las Vegas.
The league has keyed in on a team of William Foley, a billionaire businessman, and the Maloof family, former owners of the NBA's Sacramento Kings, as the spearheads of the franchise, according to a report in The New York Post.
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly admitted to meeting with persons involved in the process on a recent trip to Nevada and it's believed that Las Vegas will be one of the cities to be awarded an expansion team, if the current 30 owners approve a plan to grow the league.
The franchise fee is expected to be upwards of $400 million, but, according to the report, the NHL is not expected to decide on expansion until it settles on a second city in order to balance out the number of teams in the Eastern and Western conferences.
