Volpatti (neck) ditched his no-contact jersey at Tuesday's practice, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.

Analysis:

Volpatti underwent neck fusion surgery several months ago and finally appears to be nearing the end of his recovery timetable. The Capitals placed him on long-term injured reserve to begin the season, but he'll be eligible to return Sunday, though the Caps won't necessarily activate him at that time. Once he's back in the fold, Volpatti will skate in a bottom-six role for Washington.
