NHL offers Moore in-person hearing for rule 48 violation on Wild's Haula

Reports from a variety of reliable sources on Tuesday suggested that New York Rangers defenseman John Moore would face a telephonic hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety for his illegal check to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula. As it turns out, the Player Safety Department has offered Moore an in-person hearing instead:

The significance of the in-person hearing is that it permits the league to suspend a player - Moore in this case - for six games or more. A suspension that results from a telephonic hearing is capped at five games per article 18.8 of the 2013 NHL/NHLPA collective bargaining agreement.

Moore is a repeat offender, in fact, he was the last guy suspended by Stephane Quintal before Quintal became the NHL's chief disciplinarian on a full-time, rather than an interim, basis.
