Seguin, Andersen, Stamkos named NHL's 3 stars of the week

The NHL named its first three stars of the 2014-15 regular season Monday: 1. Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin, 2. Anaheim Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen, and 3. Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos.

The honors were handed out for games played Oct. 12-19.

Seguin led the NHL with eight points (four goals, four assists) in three games to help the Stars earn five out of a possible six points. He opened the week by recording his fifth career hat trick (fourth in Dallas) against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Needless to say, Seguin's game continues to be as big as the state in which he plays.

Andersen went 4-0-0 with a 1.22 goals-against average, .955 save percentage and one shutout (Sunday against the Blues) to help the Ducks extend their winning streak to five games. He also became the second goalie in NHL history to win 25 of his first 30 career games, and extinguished any notion of being usurped by John Gibson, for the time being at least.

Stamkos led the NHL with five goals and was tied for second in the league with six points last week to lead the Lightning to two wins in three games. He began the week by registering his eighth career hat trick (including the game-winning goal) and firing a career-high 12 shots in a 7-1 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 13.
