DET 1, TOR 0: Zetterberg's OT winner lifts Red Wings to home-and-home sweep of Maple Leafs

Rick Osentoski / USA TODAY Sports

Henrik Zetterberg opened the scoring with 10 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 1-0 victory to cap a home-and-home sweep of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

The goaltenders of Maple Leafs' past and present were on full display as Jonas Gustavsson and Jonathan Bernier combined to force the first scoreless regulation period played between the two teams since 1954.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Bernier played like he wanted his crease back in his first start in four games. He stopped 30 shots in regulation and two more in overtime before being fooled by Zetterberg.
  • Gustavsson earned the shutout - his first since his tenure with the Maple Leafs - in his first start of the season.
  • David Clarkson was arguably Toronto's best skater, playing nearly 18 minutes, but didn't record a shot.
  • Dion Phaneuf and Tomas Tatar led their respective clubs with a game-high six shots each.
