Scrivens believes Oilers 'are starting to build winning habits' despite fifth straight loss

Steve Alkok / USA TODAY Sports

Ben Scrivens was unable to keep his word after saying he would beat the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, but the Edmonton Oilers goalie believes the 2-0 decision was a step in the right direction for the still winless club.

"We're starting to build winning habits ... This is a good first step, but we have a lot of steps to go," Scrivens said, according to the team's Twitter account.

"(Vancouver) got one quality chance and buried it," he added. "We couldn't do the same on ours. We've got a lot of work left to do."

Edmonton did manage to hang with the undefeated Canucks for the majority of the contest - out shot by a margin of only 30-28 - but could not manage to get the better of Ryan Miller. Scrivens put in his best performance of the season, allowing one goal on 29 shots, but ultimately it wasn't enough to earn the win.

With the loss, the Oilers dropped to 0-4-1, matching their worst record through five games in franchise history.
