Blackhawks' Seabrook on Shaw's net-front presence: 'He's a different bird like that'

Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw is known as a bit of a pest.

He regularly sets up shop in front of the opposition's net, and Shaw doesn't plan on changing that strategy any time soon.

He told Tracey Myers of CSN that his office has always been in front of the net, even when playing street-hockey. "Instead of me shooting, I would always just be in front, just trying to tip them in," Shaw said.

Teammate Brent Seabrook said, "To be honest, I think he likes it. He’s a different bird like that. He’s a wiry little guy and takes abuse night after night in front of the net."

Shaw knew he needed to add another fold to his game and picked his spot. "Every team I went to, I felt the net-front presence would be where I earned my buck, got my opportunities."

He made his mark in the playoffs and became an important fixture on the team's second line. "I like the responsibility of taking the vision away from the goalie," Shaw explained.

He works on his screening skills every day.

Head coach Joel Quenneville values Shaw's presence and what he contributes to the team. "He sustains pucks, not just around the net, but in the corners and the puck areas. He’s really progressing in a nice way."

Shaw accrued 39 points in 80 games last year, and has three points in three games so far this season.
