Berra is believed to have suffered a head or neck injury during Thursday's loss to the Senators, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

The injury occurred when Ottawa's Mark Stone collided with Berra in the crease just three minutes into the game. He was the second Avs goalie to fall victim to injury that day, as Semyon Varlamov was placed on injured reserve just hours before the game with a bothersome groin. The Avalanche didn't issue an update on Berra's condition after the game, but if the injury prevents him from missing further action, the Avs will have to cast their lot with fresh call-up Calvin Pickard in goal. Pickard made his NHL debut in relief of Berra on Thursday, stopping just 23 of 27 shot attempts.
