Hurricanes' Sekera on avoiding serious injury: 'Somebody up there must like me a lot'

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Andrej Sekera will not play Thursday against the New York Rangers as he remains day-to-day after a nasty spill into the boards during Monday's game against the Buffalo Sabres.

When asked how he was able to escape serious injury on the play, Sekera gave a heavenly response.

"Trust me, I have no idea," Sekera told Chip Alexander of the News & Observer. "Somebody up there must like me a lot. I'm just so happy and fortunate that I only had a couple of bruises and bangs and nothing serious.

"It felt like I was in the air for a good 15 seconds," he added. "Everything was in slo-mo. Thank God nothing serious happened."

Alexander reports Sekera could return to the lineup Oct. 21.

Sekera recorded two assists in the Hurricanes' first three games after registering career highs in goals (11) and assists (33) last season.
