VIDEO: Uncalled hand pass leads to Bonino's 1st Canucks goal

Lance Iversen / USA Today

Nick Bonino got his stick on a Dan Hamhuis point shot and redirected it past Edmonton Oilers netminder Viktor Fasth for his first goal with the Vancouver Canucks - but it shouldn't have counted.

Hamhuis received the puck after Alexandre Burrows gloved an Oilers clearing attempt out of the air. The puck fell directly to the defenseman from Burrows's glove. That's defined as a hand pass in the rulebook, and should have resulted in a faceoff outside Edmonton's zone.

Instead, officials allowed the play to continue, leading to Bonino's goal seconds later.

Burrows was originally credited with an assist on the tally, which would have been some expert-level Oilers trolling by the league if the assist wasn't later removed.

Update: The league has officially credited Burrows with an assist. Expert-level trolling.
