With Jussi Rynnas placed on waivers Monday, Lindback looks poised to open the season as the backup to Kari Lehtonen, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Analysis:

Lindback's standing appeared to be in some doubt when both he and Rynnas were inked to one-way contracts in the summer, but Lindback ended up separating himself through his performance during the preseason. After he stoned the Blues 27 times on 29 shots in Saturday's win and earned the praise of coach Lindy Ruff, Lindback was able to secure the role for good. In spite of his solid camp, Lindback still figures to collect dust in the regular season, with the Stars set to lean heavily on Kari Lehtonen so long as he stays healthy. The 26-year-old Lindback's spotty NHL track record (34-35-0, 2.74 GAA, .904 save percentage over 85 games) doesn't suggest he'll ever develop into a capable No. 1 netminder.
