Hurricanes' Jordan Staal recovering from surgery, expected to miss 3-4 months

James Guillory / USA TODAY Sports

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal underwent successful surgery to stabilize his fractured right fibula, the team announced Friday morning.

He's expected to be out three to four months after breaking the lower-leg bone in an innocuous-looking collision with Josh Gorges during Tuesday's preseason matchup with the Buffalo Sabres.

Staal appeared in all 82 games for the Hurricanes last season, scoring 40 points.
