Holtby has posted a "clean sheet" through four periods over two preseason games, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.

Analysis:

Holtby has faced 40 shots in that span, and although it is only preseason action, the undisputed starting goaltender for the Capitals this season has looked solid. Given head coach Barry Trotz's past success with goaltenders, combined with a Capitals team that shored up its defensive corps significantly with the signings of Matt Niskanen and Brooks Orpik, Holtby should have a solid bounce-back season in DC this year. Holtby could be a top-10 goaltender this season, which gives him great value given that he's going in the middle rounds of most fantasy drafts. With no one pushing him for starts, Holtby is primed for a breakout performance in 2014-2015.
