Vancouver newspapers apologize for offensive caption on photo of Jordan Subban

The Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Province both apologized on Wednesday for an offensive caption below a photo of Canucks prospect Jordan Subban celebrating a goal with teammates.

"The caption information accompanying a photograph of the Vancouver Canucks’ Jordan Subban celebrating a goal was offensive and should never have been written," editor-in-chief Harold Munro wrote in a statement published on the websites of both papers.

Subban played 17:18 on Tuesday, scoring a goal in the first period with a one-timer from the high slot. He took the news of the offensive caption in stride and believes it was just a mistake.

“I heard about that,” Subban told The Province. “I had a chance to talk to a representative from the paper and it seemed like a pretty honest mistake. Am I worried about it? No. If people should be talking about something, it should be the way I played last night rather than that. Hopefully, it will just die down."

The caption, which was removed shortly after it was posted on Tuesday night, can be seen here in a screenshot courtesy of The Hockey News.
