Forward Derek Stepan suffered a non-displaced fracture to his fibula during an on-ice conditioning drill and will be sidelined for four-to-six weeks, New York Rangers general manager Glen Sather announced Wednesday.
The news comes two weeks and a day prior to the team's season opener against the St. Louis Blues, meaning Stepan could be out of the lineup for all of New York's nine October games.
Stepan ranked second on the team in scoring last season with 17 goals and 40 assists in 82 games.
