Flames' Glencross looking to cash in on next contract: 'I'm not going to sell myself short'

Flames forward Curtis Glencross is entering the final year of a fairly team-friendly contract - four years, $10.2 million - and although he enjoys his current situation in Calgary, he doesn't appear eager to give the club another hometown discount.

As a result, he's prepared to see what kind of deal he can command as an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Glencross to the Calgary Sun:

I love Calgary. I love the Flames organization. My last contract proves that I love this organization. But I've seen the contracts that are going out now and the comparables, and I'm not going to sell myself short. When it comes down to it, I'm an unrestricted free agent come July 1st and I have a no-move clause in my contract. I'd like to get something done before the season started, but in the long run, the longer we wait, unrestricted free agency's July 1st.

If it becomes apparent that he won't re-sign with the club, Flames management may look to move him prior to the trade deadline; that's a bridge he'll cross if and when it presents itself: "Obviously, the ball's in my court with my no-move clause in my last year here [but] I just want to get through training camp, get the season started and get things going."

The 31-year-old has spent the majority of his eight-year career with the Flames, scoring 105 goals and adding 109 assists in 365 games with the club, good for an average of 48 points per 82 games.

Glencross was limited to 38 games last season, but recorded 12 goals and 12 assists, putting him on pace for a career-high 51 points. That level of production could make him a hot commodity both at the deadline and in free agency.
