Bruins sign Matt Fraser to 1-year, 2-way deal worth $625K

The Boston Bruins still have to get key restricted free agents Torey Krug and Reilly Smith under contract - not easy considering the club's tenuous salary cap situation - but at least on Friday they locked down promising forward Matt Fraser.

The club announced the deal on their Twitter account, and while they didn't disclose financial details, it's a one-year, two-way deal. TVA's Renaud Lavoie is reporting that Fraser's deal is worth $625,000 at the NHL level.

The Bruins acquired the 24-year-old forward as part of the deal that sent Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars during the summer of 2013. He appeared in 44 games with the AHL's Providence Bruins during the 2013-14 season, tallying 20 goals and 10 assists.

In 14 regular-season games with the big club, Fraser scored twice before adding a key overtime winner in his Stanley Cup playoff debut during the Eastern Conference semifinal round.

Throughout his professional career, Fraser has managed to score goals at a commendable rate (he's scored 90 times in 181 career AHL games), which bodes well for his future. If he continues to develop, it seems possible that he could have some upside as a bottom-six winger, generating an above-average rate of even-strength goals and filling in on the second power-play unit.
