Flyers sign Ryan White to 1-year, 2-way contract

Jean-Yves Ahern / USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed agitating fourth-line centerman Ryan White to a one-year, two-way contract, the club announced Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and have not yet been reported.

White, 26, appeared in 53 games with the Montreal Canadiens during the 2013-14 campaign and managed to chip in two goals and six total points. The physical fourth-line forward only appeared in three playoff games during Montreal's run to the Eastern Conference Final though, and wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by the club before the June 30 deadline.

A third-round pick of the Canadiens in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, White bolsters Philadelphia's bottom-six forward depth, but is likely to face an uphill climb in seeking to break camp with the NHL club. As it stands, the Flyers have 11 forwards signed to one-way NHL contracts, and a couple of other young forwards - Scott Laughton and Jason Akeson in particular - who seem ready to handle everyday duty in the NHL next season.
