Report: Canucks, Capitals, Oilers have offered CEO position to Bob Nicholson

On Wednesday night, TSN's Darren Dreger reported, in vague terms, that longtime Hockey Canada CEO Bob Nicholson was on the verge of accepting a Tim Leiweke-like executive position with an NHL club. 

Now The Hockey News' Ken Campbell has fleshed out some additional details. Before we get to the substance of Campbell's information, it should be mentioned that Campbell erroneously reported that Nicholson was set to join the Vancouver Canucks in early April. So take this information with all of the sodium chloride in Goderich, On.:

The Capitals and the Canucks have recently shaken up their front office structures, and could presumably be seeking an additional executive layer to further insulate new management from two ownership groups with a reputation for being meddlesome.

As for the Oilers, certainly no organization could benefit as much from an additional dose of managerial competence. Located in a hockey-mad market, loaded with young talent, and poised to move into a new state-of-the-art downtown arena in a couple of years, it's certainly conceivable that the Oilers job might hold the most appeal for Nicholson.
