Suspended Prust's text to Rangers' Stepan: 'I feel awful'

Bruce Fedyck / USA TODAY Sports

Montreal Canadiens forward Brandon Prust met with reporters Saturday to reveal that he reached out to New York Rangers forward Derek Stepan after breaking his former teammate's jaw with a blindside hit in Game 3.

Admitting that the hit was late, Prust placed the onus on himself for "trying to create energy" on his first shift of the game.

He added that he believes time will help mend their friendship, and that he did not receive a message back.

Prust received a two-game suspension for the incident.
