As the clock wound down on a 6-2 win for the Los Angeles Kings in a series-deciding Game 7 against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, attention quickly turned to 43-year-old forward Teemu Selanne, who was concurrently seeing time run out on his NHL career.

The post-game scene was quite emotional, as players and fans alike paid their respects to one of the game's legendary forwards.

“It’s unbelievable, so much class and respect. That’s what this game is all about,” Selanne said after the game, per Pro Hockey Talk. “It has been a pleasure to be around for so many years.”

Kings forward Anze Kopitar disclosed what he said to Selanne in the handshake line, saying to Jon Rosen: "I told him it was a privilege to play against him."

Unfortunately, the end to Selanne's career wasn't quite what he envisioned.

Selanne did win a Stanley Cup as a member of the Ducks in 2007, and said Orange County will always hold a special place in his heart.

Finally, head coach Bruce Boudreau offered Selanne the highest of praise in the wake of a tough loss: "Universal respect is held in high esteem for select people. Teemu Selanne has it."

In 1451 career games, Selanne scored 684 goals and added 773 assists for a total of 1457, good for 15th on the NHL's all-time scoring list.

As for Selanne's future, he may be sticking around in Southern California:

We hope so.

Thanks, Teemu.
