Agent for Grabovski and Kulemin thinks they could be package deal as UFAs

Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin were separated last season after five years of playing together on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Grabovski was bought out by the Maple Leafs and signed a one-year deal with the Washington Capitals, while Kulemin stayed in Toronto. But according to agent Gary Greenstin, who represents both pending free agents, Grabovski and Kulemin are entertaining the idea of reuniting on the ice in 2014-15.

"They're always talking about, 'Wouldn't it be great to play on the same team together,'" Greenstin told Michael Traikos of the National Post on Thursday. "They're best friends. They play great together. We'll see what happens."

Grabovski and Kulemin put up career-best numbers as linemates in 2010-11, when Kulemin scored 30 goals and Grabovski finished with 58 points. They have remained close friends ever since and still train together in the offseason.

Greenstin is not sure if Grabovski would consider staying in Washington, but said it hinges on whether Adam Oates is still coaching the team. Grabovski signed with Washington in large part because of Oates.

Greenstin also suggested Kulemin was unhappy with his role in Toronto. He believes the Russian winger "can get 20 to 22 goals," in the right role, but chides the Maple Leafs for using Kulemin almost exclusively in defensive situations like penalty-killing.

“You just put him on penalty killing. Not even a chance to play power play. Of course he’s not happy with his role. I’m not happy,” Greenstin said.

Considering Grabovski called Toronto coach Randy Carlyle an "idiot" on his way out of town, the idea of a Maple Leafs reunion for he and Kulemin seems impossible, but Greenstin refused to rule it out, saying anything is possible since the hiring of Brendan Shanahan as team president.
