Avalanche's Barrie out 4-6 weeks with knee injury
On Monday night Colorado Avalanche defender Tyson Barrie was injured during a knee-on-knee collision with Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke. Barrie, whose left knee was hit by Cooke's out-stretched leg on an attempted body-check, sustained a knee injury on the play (MCL) and will reportedly miss four-to-six weeks according to the Denver Post's Adrian Dater.
Barrie led all Avalanche skaters in even-strength shot-attempt differential in the regular season, and consistently logged first unit power-play minutes. He also contributed 13 goals to lead all Avalanche blue-liners.
Joe Sakic, who is the Avalanche's executive vice president of hockey operations, is confident that the NHL's Department of Player Safety will suspend Cooke for his injurious hit. "I'm confident the league will do the right thing," said the Avalanche executive and Hockey Hall of Famer.
