Henrik Sedin to play 1,000th game in first-ever visit to Winnipeg

Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin will reach the 1,000 career game mark Wednesday, and will do so at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, where he has yet to play.

However, with the Canucks on the outside of the playoff picture after having gone 4-12-1 in their past 17 games (tied with the Jets with 68 points), the 33-year old is in no mood to celebrate the milestone.

“Right now, it’s tough to think about it as a celebration, looking at where we are in the standings and looking at what we’re going through,” he said via the Canadian Press. "Maybe after the season or maybe further down the line. It’s a different kind of feeling than it would have been (if we were) winning (consistently) or going into the final stretch knowing you were going to be in the playoffs.”

Having said that, he acknowledges the significance of playing 1,000 games all with the same team. "It means a lot,” said Sedin. “You see guys around our league and, the 1,000, it’s a big thing. But they’ve usually been around to different teams. (Brother Daniel and I) have been very fortunate to play on the same team in the same city for a long time.”

In 999 career games, Henrik Sedin has registered 192 goals and 641 assists, ranking him first on the Canucks' all-time scoring list.
