The Nashville Predators have confirmed that David Legwand has been traded to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for forwards Calle Jarnkrok, Patrick Eaves and a conditional third-round selection in the 2014 Entry Draft.

As per the team's official website, if the Red Wings make the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the third-round selection becomes a second-round pick.

Legwand, of course, had been with Nashville since the team's inception in 1998, and registered 210 goals and 356 assists in 956 career games since making his debut with the Predators in 1999.

As such, the move marks a turning of a page for the franchise, as expressed below by general manager David Poile.

We thank David Legwand for being a pillar of this organization since he became our first-ever draft pick in 1998. David has been a part of some of the greatest moments in our franchise’s history since he made his NHL debut in April of 1999. He has scored big goals, played an integral part in all of our playoff series and helped lead the franchise through our greatest triumphs and trials. While today we say goodbye to one of this club’s most unforgettable players, we wish him the best in his career going forward and all of his future endeavors.

Legwand, who scored 10 goals and added 30 assists in 62 games for the Predators this season, will now head to a former divisional rival in Detroit in an attempt to solidify their center ranks amid injuries to Pavel Datsyuk and Stephen Weiss.

In terms of what the Predators get back from Detroit, Jarnkrok, 22, has registered 13 goals and 23 assists in 57 games during his first full season with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins in 2013-14, and recently rated No. 41 in The Hockey News’ Top 50 NHL prospects.

Veteran forward Patrick Eaves will also help to add offensive depth to the team's forward ranks.
