Avalanche's Calvin Pickard: Impresses in win over Boston

Pickard made 29 saves on 31 shots Thursday, stunning the Bruins in their own arena with a 4-2 win.

Analysis:

David Pastrnak got him for a pair of goals 1:20 apart in the second period, but Pickard was unbeatable otherwise. All the 24-year-old has done when given the opportunity to play in the NHL is turn out big-time save numbers, and this year's no exception -- he's got a .922 save mark to go with five wins in eight starts. Meanwhile, starter Semyon Varlamov has been inconsistent, to put it charitably -- he owns a .905 save percentage and has taken four straight losses. Pickard's time is now; he should continue wresting starts away from Varlamov.
