Coyotes' Mike Smith: Shows courage under fire in overtime loss

Smith made 40 saves on 42 chances Tuesday, but that wasn't enough to avoid absorbing an overtime loss against the Sharks.

Analysis:

San Jose pelted Smith with vulcanized rubber while his own mates managed just 19 shots against Martin Jones on the other end, putting a stop to the veteran's brief two-game winning streak. He's been under heavy fire recently, having faced 40-plus shots in three of the Coyotes' last five games. That will probably only get worse if top blueliner Oliver Ekman-Larsson has to miss time because of the injury he suffered Monday. Although his team context isn't extremely conducive to fantasy value, Smith has been great since returning from injury and doesn't face much competition from either Justin Peters or the soon-to-return Louis Domingue (lower body).
