Avalanche's Calvin Pickard: Makes relief appearance Sunday

Pickard made three saves and didn't allow a goal in relief of Semyon Varlamov in a loss to the Blues on Sunday.

Analysis:

Varly laid an absolute egg Sunday (five goals on 25 shots) after Pickard shut out the Wild with 32 saves Saturday. Given the fact that Pickard has a minuscule 1.50 GAA with a similarly impressive .946 save percentage and 3-0-0 record, there could be a goaltending controversy brewing in Denver. It hasn't been announced yet, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Pickard get the nod in Colorado's next game against the Coyotes on Tuesday.
