Ducks' John Gibson: Turns in sterling relief performance, but loses

Gibson stopped 24 of 25 shots after coming on in relief of Jonathan Bernier in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to San Jose.

Analysis:

Bernier was removed after one period with an upper-body injury, pressing Gibson into action on his day off. The Ducks' No. 1 netminder showed no rust, though, as he was perfect until Marc-Edouard Vlasic finally solved him in overtime. Anaheim surely wants to get the 23-year-old netminder sufficient rest, as he's going to be asked to blow away last season's total of 40 appearances, but Bernier's injury may force Gibson into action again Wednesday against Nashville in the second of a back-to-back set.
