The fourth-line forward failed to even register a shot on net Thursday, and after scoring 14 points and averaging 13:33 per game last year, VandeVelde appears locked into an even lesser role to start 2016-17. Philadelphia did have seven power-play opportunities, which cut into VandeVelde's ice time, but it also reinforces how limited his offensive chances are likely to be.
