Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Skating with non-contact jersey

Crosby (concussion), who is not play Opening Night, skated for the third straight day Thursday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "Sid is continuing to make progress," coach Mike Sullivan said. "That's going to be one of those situations where it's just going to be day to day, but he's making progress, and that's great news for us."

Analysis:

Sullivan stated that Bryan Rust is closer to returning than Crosby and Rust probably won't return prior to Week 2. Although the team is encouraged by Crosby's progress, the organization is mindful that the second concussion Crosby received four days after the first one in January of 2011 is what kept the captain sidelined for nearly two seasons.
