Sharks' Ryan Carpenter: Carpenter working toward opening night roster

Coach Pete DeBoer split training camp into NHL and AHL factions Wednesday and Carpenter stuck with the NHL squad, reports CSN Bay Area.

Analysis:

Carpenter made his NHL debut last season but didn't do much with the opportunity. However, he was very good with AHL San Jose, posting 18 goals and 55 points in 66 games. That could be enough to earn the 25-year-old a longer look in the NHL this season. Though he could see NHL time, he's unlikely to be a high-impact pickup in most formats.
