Sharks' Timo Meier: Out against Coyotes

Meier (illness) will not be healthy in time for Friday's matchup with Arizona, but could return Sunday, Curtis Pashelka of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Analysis:

Meier is by no means a lock to make the Opening Night roster, and the longer this illness drags on, the less likely he is to secure a spot. If the Sharks decide not to keep him up in the NHL, the teenager could return to the QMJHL or be assigned to AHL San Jose to further his development. Fantasy owners in season-long formats may want to hold off on Meier until there is more certainty about where he will play this year.
