Penguins' Phil Kessel: Practices without restrictions Friday

Kessel (hand) returned to the ice for practice Friday without any apparent restrictions, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Analysis:

After learning that Team USA would get knocked out of contending for a medal in the World Cup of Hockey, a tournament for which Kessel was snubbed, the star winger lit up social media with a scathing tweet that read, "Just sitting around the house tonight w my dog. Felt like I should be doing something important, but couldn't put my finger on it." It's not clear if he even would've been healthy enough to play in the latest international tournament, but he could have changed the narrative for an American team that went winless. After all, he was named the best forward in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, having scored five goals with three assists in six games. Kessel remains on track for Opening Night with the Penguins.
