Red Wings' Niklas Kronwall: Skating solo in rehab

Kronwall (knee) will continue skating on his own during camp but it remains unclear if he'll be ready for the start of the 2016-17 season, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Analysis:

Kronwall, who plays with reckless abandon, cannot seem to get back to full strength with his knee injuries dating back to last season and forcing him to withdraw from the World Cup of Hockey. While he's expected to play through the pain, fellow Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is dealing with a hip impingement, further clouding the look of Detroit's blue line heading into the 2016-17 season. If either of those rearguards miss time, it's going to open the door for prospects Ryan Sproul and Xavier Ouellet.
