Ducks' Rickard Rakell: Goes under knife, out two weeks

Rakell will be off the ice for two weeks after undergoing surgery to remove scar tissue leading up to his appendectomy, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.

Analysis:

Rakell had to withdraw from the World Cup of Hockey due to a stomach virus, which evidently was appendicitis. Assuming the Swedish center makes a full recovery in two weeks, his status for Opening Night should not be in jeopardy. A gritty player who's strong on the forecheck, Rakell recorded career highs across the board last season, including 20 goals, 23 assists, and 10 points on the man advantage. He is a restricted free agent, so perhaps the downtime will allow him to come to terms with the Ducks on a new deal.
