Jets' Dustin Byfuglien: Benched for World Cup opener

Byfuglien was a healthy scratch for Saturday's World Cup match against Team Europe, Nick Cotsonika of NHL.com reports.

Analysis:

Byfuglien curiously was left on the pine in favor of Jack Johnson. Coach John Tortorella used Big Buff as a forward in a pre-tournament game against Finland on Tuesday, but various reports noted that the Jets alternate captain wasn't happy about playing that role. At the time of this writing, two periods into the World Cup opener versus Europe, Team USA trails 3-0, so there's plenty of reason to believe Torts will turn to Byfuglien in Tuesday's match against Team Canada.
