Coyotes' Antoine Vermette: Placed on waivers for purpose of buyout

Vermette has been unconditionally waived by the Coyotes on Monday and bought out of his contract, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Analysis:

Under the terms of the buyout, Vermette will be owed $1.25 million this year and next, which saves Arizona $2.5 million in cap space for 2016-17. The 34-year-old had solid production last season, as he tallied 17 goals and 21 helpers in the desert. It would appear the organization has concerns over his age and want to get out from under his contract, despite his decent numbers. Given his value, it is certainly possible somebody will pick him up before the start of the upcoming campaign.
