Avalanche's Tyson Barrie: Signs four-year deal with Avalanche

Barrie agreed to a four-year contract with the Avalanche on Sunday with an average salary expected to be $5.5 million per year, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Analysis:

Barrie filed for arbitration at the start of July and it appeared the two sides weren't going to get a deal done prior to the hearing. Instead, Barrie agreed to a four-year extension with the Avalanche on Sunday, netting a much-deserved raise entering his sixth season in the NHL. The puck-moving defenseman recorded 36 assists during his 2015-16 campaign, putting him in the top-15 at his position. Look for him to take on a similar role with the Avalanche moving forward now that he can put the contract negotiations behind him.
