Red Wings' Danny DeKeyser: Secures six-year contract extension

DeKeyser agreed to terms with the Red Wings on a six-year, $30 million contract extension Tuesday, ESPN reports.

Analysis:

This is a lucrative contract for DeKeyser, but the Wings worked out the deal knowing they could ill afford to lose a top-four defenseman who's proficient on both ends of the rink. The 26-year-old compiled 51 points (10 goals, 41 assists) over the last two seasons and turned in 107 blocked shots in the most recent campaign. However, DeKeyser owners wouldn't mind if he started picking up more time on the man advantage after averaging 0:33 in that special-teams scenario in 2015-16.
