Such players will be insured at the NHL/NHLPA's expense, a league source told Gary Lawless of TSN.

Among those who would fall under this umbrella are Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan of the Calgary Flames, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

The World Cup is set to take place from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1 in Toronto, giving these players several weeks to get their NHL contracts out of the way before the puck drops.
