Blackhawks to buy out Rundblad

Mike DiNovo / USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Blackhawks are clearing a bit more salary cap space.

The club has placed defenseman David Rundblad on waivers for the purpose of a contract buyout, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.

A buyout will save the Blackhawks $916,667 in cap space for 2016-17.

General manager Stan Bowman indicated Rundblad petitioned for the move.

Rundblad, the 17th overall pick from the 2009 NHL Draft, has appeared in 113 career games, recording four goals and 21 assists. He spent part of this past season on loan to Zurich SC of the Swiss League.
