Sharks' Tomas Hertl: extended qualifying offer

Hertl received a qualifying offer from the Sharks on Monday, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.

Analysis:

Hertl had the best year of his young career last season with the Sharks, as the 22-year-old posted career highs with 21 goals and 25 assists. He also produced nine points in the playoffs. By extending a qualifying offer, the Sharks can match any free agent offer Hertl receives, so he will presumably be back next season to try and help San Jose get back to the Stanley Cup Finals.
