Canucks' Yannick Weber: Won't stay in Vancouver

Weber, a pending unrestricted free agent, will not have his contract extended by the Cancuks, per general manager Jim Benning.

Analysis:

Weber struggled along with the rest of the team last season, recording seven assists for his only points along with a minus-17 rating in 45 games. The Canucks waived him last season, but he went unclaimed and subsequently reported to AHL Utica. Still, he's likely to end up with a different club needing a veteran defenseman who's familiar with the power play. The Red Wings would make sense as a potential suitor, provided Weber isn't seeking much more than the $1.5 million he netted with the Canucks this past season.
