The Eagles have landed their potential franchise centerpiece.

With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, a selection acquired from the Cleveland Browns earlier in April, Philadelphia selected quarterback Carson Wentz out of North Dakota State.

Despite having re-signed Sam Bradford and added Chase Daniel as his presumed backup, Philadelphia was still thought to be seeking a long-term answer at the most important position on the field.

The blockbuster trade ensured the Eagles would come away with one of this year's top two quarterbacks, regardless of the Los Angeles Rams' pick at No. 1 overall.

Wentz makes the jump to the NFL after leading North Dakota State to consecutive FCS titles. Though the difference in competition level could conceivably require a significant adjustment, the presence of Bradford and Daniel should allow Philadelphia to bring him along slowly.

Wentz emerged as a promising NFL prospect after the first of the two championship seasons, when he completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,111 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
