Giants select TE Jerell Adams in 6th round

The New York Giants have selected tight end Jerell Adams out of South Carolina in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Adams joins wide receiver Sterling Shephard and running back Paul Perkins as Eli Manning's newest weapons. He has an opportunity to be the Giants' starter, with injuries putting Larry Donnell's future in question.

Jerell Adams Bio

Position: TE
School: South Carolina
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-6
Weight: 231 lbs.

Strengths

  • Outstanding length and athleticism. Played tight end, quarterback, linebacker, defensive end, and punter in high school, and was a power forward on the basketball team.
  • Impressive straight-line speed. Posted the fastest 40-yard dash time among tight ends at the scouting combine.
  • Wide catch radius and good body control, allowing him to adjust to poorly thrown balls.
  • Doesn't shy away from contact and is productive after the catch (averaged 6.9 YAC).

Weaknesses

  • Lanky frame; will need to bulk up at the NFL level.
  • Some ball-security issues, as he had five drops in 2015. Tends to catch with his body rather than plucking the ball out of the air.
  • Looks stiff coming in and out of his breaks.
  • Willing blocker, but could use some improvement in that area.
